Pukaskwa National Park

Located about 15 minutes drive off the Trans-Canada Highway, near Marathon and Pic River First Nation, Pukaskwa - the largest national park in Ontario - is a hidden jewel and a gate to the true northern wilderness.

Much less frequented than Lake Superior Provincial Park, it is an ideal place to quietly enjoy the rugged beauty of the shores and the challenging trails, or paddle the rivers running through its territory to Lake Superior. Given to sudden moods of the weather, the lake tends to catch you off guard with strong and gusty winds, while paddling along its shores, only to reward you later in the day by a walk on the beach in all encompassing serenity. Surprising contrasts are characteristic of the park's diverse scenery. Prominent, sometimes formidably looking, lava formations hide incredibly picturesque coves and islands, while the rugged rocks suddenly give a way to the finest sand dunes covered by a fragile growth of plants and flowers.

Such is the Pukaskwa wilderness - challenging and fragile at the same time. Don't spend just one night. Give the park a chance to reveal your strengths and limitations.
