Toronto & Nearby GetawaysWhile there are many faces of Toronto, many more are being born at a breathtaking pace, whether we take a notice or not. During the recent past, the city has undergone an enormous trasformation from the industrious, yet relatively quiet town to a bustling metropolis. The pace of this expansion has been too rapid to allow most of the people to realize and absorb the impacts of the changes on their immediate environment, not to mention the areas remote from their daily lives. The focus of the images featured in this edition is not on the high density urban centres. Rather, the inner city here remains somewhat distant, often seen from a vantage point showing the urban element blending into a natural setting. The images express a contemplation of a big city living as an individual experience which, of course, has as many faces as the city itself. This one of ours emphasizes the interplay between nature and urban elements, pondering some of the newer structures within the original natural settings as if trying to reveal the esthetics and meaning of their coexistence. The countryside surrounding Toronto offers numerous provincial
parks, conservation areas and rural retreats within an hour drive or so,
each of them being worth visiting and beautiful in its own right. For
this edition we have chosen Forks of Credit Provincial Park, located near
the township of Caledon and Hwy. 10. The area includes a portion of the
Bruce Trail, following the Niagara Escarpment, resplendent with scenery
and vistas that attract many, especially during the fall season when maple
leafs display the full range of colours.
